APSEA is an interprovincial cooperative agency established in 1975 by joint agreement among the Ministers of Education of New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. APSEA provides educational services, programs and opportunities for children and youth who are Deaf, hard of hearing, blind, or visually impaired who reside in Atlantic Canada.
Under the direction of the Provincial Supervisor, the itinerant teacher is responsible for providing direct instruction in areas of the Expanded Core Curriculum, and consultation in support of students on their caseload in the home, community and school (birth to high school graduation). The incumbent works collaboratively with the school based or early childhood team. This position requires daily travel and the ability to work in a variety of settings.

- Valid Nova Scotia Teacher Certification (minimum teaching certification ITC)
- Masters degree or equivalent in Education of Students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing
- Ability to communicate effectively in ASL
- CAEDHH Teacher Certification would be considered an asset
- Experience with assessment, program planning and delivery of instruction for students who are deaf or hard of hearing, including those with additional challenges
- Competence in listening and spoken language development
- Experience and training in early childhood education
- Ability to assess and provide programs to address the diverse learning styles of students
- Experience teaching in a variety of settings (e.g., elementary through senior high school, preschools, in the home, virtually)
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and relate positively to children, parents, preschool and early intervention staff, APSEA staff, administrators, public school educators and other professionals from outside agencies
- Excellent organizational/time management skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Demonstrated self-initiative and ability to work with limited supervision
- Ability to produce and maintain records and student files
- Regular travel: requires the use of personal vehicle; may require overnight stays
